about

I wrote this one after my first tour. We drove East and it inspired me to drive West. Canada is powerful that way. And driving for hours is a huge brain tease.

This song was part of my contribution to Shelter Me: The Songs of the Kingston Folk Club, a benefit CD to raise money for the Kingston Humane Society (proudly supported by RealtySource).

The Album Features:
Gord Beech / Liana Finucan / Andrea Gauster / Barb Gillespie / Shamus Hanna / Patrick Hulley / Jon McLurg / Rick Melanson / Monuments & Statues / Tracie Morgan / Chris Morris / Johnny San / Christina Tracy / Kit Wykes

All proceeds from this track will be donated to the Kingston Humane Society.

lyrics

Sep 4, 2010

We tried hard the week we started
Though we were from our families parted
And we knew the time would come way too soon

I am sure I was not the only one
Who went to sleep with the words of that song
In my head and a fear I’d lose momentum
From a summer of hazy heat from the sun

It was time to move forward
Not rewind, the cold grew colder
A lover's breath, a foggy window
Time to set aside for sorrow

And as the days grew shorter I lost my tongue
On a ride to Toronto by my lonesome
Just the scorch of the pavement on my wheels
And a dream to head westward on my heels

But I was stuck on you
The time would come too soon
And I was sure not to say yes to every single muse

I am sure I was not the only one
Who went to sleep with the words of that song
In my head and a fear I’d lose momentum
From a summer of hazy heat from the sun
And as the days grew shorter I lost my tongue
On a ride to Toronto by my lonesome
Just the scorch of the pavement on my wheels
And a dream to head westward on my heels
